Seahawks 2016 NFL Draft Round 2
Congratulations to Germain Ifedi being selected in the 1st round, 31st overall!
While his TEF was a little under 3.00, I understand why the Hawks selected him. I like his personality and his length. I believe the reaction to being drafted is mutual Germain.
Now, onto the next round. While gaining another 3rd round pick from the Broncos via the 1st round trade. I think we get aggressive and trade up for Noah Spence. I did not think he was going to be around by the time the 2nd round and I think you have to go after him. Using the mock draft calculator on MockDraftable.com, there are several ways we can get Spence in the 2nd Round.
Both cases, would require giving up a 3rd and 4th round pick, but for Spence, I think it's worth doing.
1st would be to trade up with Tennessee.
2nd option would be to trade up with Jacksonville which seems like an even trade.
I would be comfortable in having Spence as a designated pass rusher.
Let's look at the physical comparisons between former Seahawk, Bruce Irvin and Noah Spence.
TEF is nearly identical:
Arms: 33 3/8
Hands: 9 5/8
Hands: 10 3/4
The physical traits are there. Bennett and Avril are 30 years old, Bennett turning 31 later this year. It won't hurt having another pass rusher groomed under Bennett and Avril for the next few years. Spence can provide that type of explosion that we seen from Irvin in years past. Spence would fill the LEO (Weakside Edge) position in the Hawks system.
If Seahawks do not trade up, then other pass rushers available that might be available would be Emmanuel Ogbah and Shilique Calhoun. Matt Judon could also be a valuable pick tomorrow.
